Off the coast of Chile is the island of Rapa Nui or more commonly known as Easter Island. A magical speck of land in the South Pacific, this island’s claim to fame is not surprisingly the hundreds of Moai statues scattered throughout the landscape. If visiting this majestic place is on your bucket list, there’s a new eco-friendly property to consider staying at. The Hangaroa Eco Village & Spa is found in the capital of Hanga Roa, within walking distance of the town and is also conveniently only a kilometre away from the airport. This 75-room resort boasts two restaurants and a bar, which serves up authentic local cuisine with dishes that rotate on a regular basis depending on what’s in season. READ MORE

An ensemble by Thom Browne.
The Museum at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) is set to be the first museum to celebrate the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA) with IMPACT: 50 Years of the CFDA. Running from February 10 until April 20, 2012, this special exhibition will feature about 100 garments and accessories designed by some of the CFDA’s most successful creators of the last 50 years including Halston, Diane von Furstenberg, Michael Kors, Tom Ford, Donna Karan, Ralph Lauren, Oscar de la Renta, Rodarte and Proenza Schouler, to name just a few. The exhibition will be arranged thematically, highlighting everything from sportswear to couture evening-wear. Another part of the exhibition will be visual images and acknowledgements of nearly 600 designers who have been members. A selection of designers have also been asked to present a single object or ensemble they think best represents his or her impact on the fashion world.

The Red Room in the Valentino Garavani Virtual Museum.
Earlier this week legendary Italian fashion designer Valentino Garavani launched the first ever virtual museum at New York City’s Museum of Modern Art with partner Giancarlo Giammetti. The presentation, which was live-streamed on YouTube was hosted by Valentino fan and actress Anne Hathaway and also included presenters Hugh Jackman, editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue Franca Sozzani and Google Art Project’s creator Amid Sood.
The museum took two years to create and is truly a masterpiece. The museum is 10,000 square metres (if it was in the physical world) and features 7 different galleries including a “Very Valentino” retrospective that features dresses from the ’60s all the way to the ’00s. You’ll find more than 5,000 images of dresses, illustrations, videos and photographs, as well as runway shows clips, plus more than 300 dresses including some worn by celebrities like Jacqueline Kennedy, Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Taylor, all of which can be viewed in 360 degrees. A Louis Vuitton ad campaign
Earlier this week we heard rumblings that a Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs exhibit would be coming to Les Arts Décoratifs in Paris and we’re happy to report that the rumours are in fact true! The exhibit is set to run March 6, 2012 until September 16, 2012, which is perfect timing for those in Paris for Fashion Week (as that goes from February 28 until March 7). The exhibition is set to be more of an analysis than a retrospective, highlighting both Louis Vuitton and Marc Jacobs, who has been the creative director of the brand since 1997 and the contributions they’ve made to the fashion world. We can bet this will be a must-see once it opens. We can’t wait!

A colourful room at The Saguaro
Opening earlier this month is The Saguaro, Scottsdale, Arizona’s newest downtown hotel. Located where Old Town, the Arts district and Civic Center Mall meet, this bright and fresh addition comes from Joie de Vivre Hotels, known for their distinctly vibrant boutique hotels found only in California — until now.
The Saguaro’s style is influenced by contemporary architecture of Mexico and the Arizona desert — hence the bursts of primary colours throughout the property, the natural wood and leather furnishings and hand-crafted pieces from Mexico. All of the 194 guest rooms include outdoor patios or balconies, iPod docking station, work desk, flat screen TV and free Internet for Joy of Life members, while you’ll find soaker tubs and walk-in closets in the suites. Four Seasons Langkawi, Malaysia
One of the best parts of this spa week are the promotions available at properties all over the globe (each offer varies by destination) if you pay using your American Express card. Maybe you need a pre-holiday relaxation session or just need a little “me time.” Whatever the case, we think this Spa Escape promotion couldn’t come at a better time.
